Introduction to Clinical Trials

MD Anderson Cancer Center
Date: October 2012

One of the nation's top comprehensive cancer centers, MD Anderson is devoted to patient care, research, education and prevention.  Our mission is to find a cure for cancer.  Patients come here from all over the world for the latest therapies and many participate in clinical trials.  These trials are research studies involving people and are designed to find better ways of preventing, diagnosing, or treating disease.

Because of the research conducted at MD Anderson's main campus as well as the regional care centers, it's likely that you've been offered a clinical trial as a treatment option or maybe you were searching for a clinical trial that is right for you.  We hope the following video will help you to make the best decisions for you and your family.

Each patient participating in a clinical interacts with members of the research team which includes the principal investigator usually a doctor who is responsible for the overall design and conduct of the trial.  The research nurse who coordinates patient care and helps manage the information collected in the trial and the clinical nurse who coordinates patient care in the clinic where the patient is treated.
