Research fuels our mission to end cancer
Many of the greatest minds in cancer research are at MD Anderson. They're here because MD Anderson offers a unique environment that accelerates their ability to end cancer. They collaborate with other cancer experts – in different research areas and with the world's leading cancer doctors. Bright students and trainees contribute further to our dynamic research environment. Discoveries are fueled by vast research support and resources. Tomorrow's medicine is available to our patients first since we have the most cancer clinical trials in the world. These research efforts work in parallel to fight cancer through prevention, early diagnosis, effective therapies and scientific breakthroughs.

In April, MD Anderson was awarded more than $10 million in grants by Break Through Cancer to support collaborative research teams working to improve outcomes for several cancer types with the greatest unmet need, including pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer and glioblastoma (GBM).
MD Anderson's award is part of $50 million in Break Through Cancer grants being made to teams across five cancer research centers: MD Anderson, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT.
MD Anderson's projects include Intercepting Ovarian Cancer, Targeting Minimal Residual Disease in Ovarian Cancer, Conquering KRAS in Pancreatic Cancer, and Revolutionizing GBM Drug Development Through Serial Biopsies.
NIH Funding
MD Anderson's research and training are aided by more than $168 million in NIH grant funding, which helps power our mission to end cancer.

Prostate cancer researcher finds rewards in mentoring
As the principal investigator of the Frigo Lab at MD Anderson, Daniel Frigo, Ph.D., mentors a team of researchers focused on prostate cancer metabolism. His main goal is to create an environment for lab members that doesn’t feel like a job. “I want our team to be excited and lead their own experiments,” Frigo says. “I never want them to feel like they’re coming to work.”
