Under the direction of the department chairman, the Hematopathology Observer Training Program allows pathologists and pathologists-in-training the opportunity to participate in the clinical and research experience offered by the Hematopathology faculty. Along with clinical observation, participants are allowed to attend department and division conferences hosted at MD Anderson. Observer openings and availability are determined by space availability for the time requirements listed below. Interested participants should inquire about availability at least six months ahead of the requested time.
The Observer Training Program is open to pathologists and pathologists in training, both domestic and international. The program is not well suited to those interested in clinical hematology and medical students are not accepted.
Types and numbers of appointments
Our observer program has a one month maximum (31 days), but can be extended up to three months lifetime (no reappointments allowed). Observers can request appointments depending on seating availability.
Stipends and maintenance
There is no stipend or supplement award for observers. Observers must provide their own accommodations for travel and living expenses.
Interseted candidates who wish to observe must complete an online application through our DISCOVER system. Those who plan to stay for less than 30 days are considered visitors/short term observers and are also required to complete the online application.
In addition, all applicants must mail or email a curriculum vitae along with a letter of interest with: their preferred time frame for visitation; current position and title; their biosketch; and goals of observing. Send these materials to:
