Clinical Program: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Individualized Patient Care
Goal
A multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of patients diagnosed with cancer has been the key for delivering high quality of care. A tsunami created by rapidly expanding knowledge in tumor molecular biology and immunology, moreover, new molecular approaches have enabled the development of therapeutics that target specific oncogenic mutations and immune checkpoints. This constant evolution has maintained a dynamic relationship with the disciplines - surgical, radiation therapy and medical oncology- modulating the approach in an individualized patient care. The advances and emerging data is much needed in community settings in order to deliver quality care and to improve patient outcomes.
Educational Objectives

Nursing Excellence: Navigating the Changing Landscape of Oncology Nursing
Goal
The Nursing Excellence program focuses on current clinical topics across the continuum of oncology care. After attending this educational activity, the registered nurse will self-report an understanding of patient navigation practices in oncology, principles of cancer genetics and appropriate risk assessment, administration and management of immunotherapy and biosimilars, best practices in cancer care, ethical considerations in oncology, oncologic emergencies management, updates in head and neck cancer treatment, and the use of integrative medicine in oncology. The program will provide an opportunity to collaborate with MD Anderson Cancer Network and national colleagues and the potential to earn up to 13.75 nursing contact hours.
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is an approved provider with commendation of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association – Approver, an accredited approver with distinction, by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Nurses may earn up to 13.75 contact hours for both days.
