Educational Information
Objectives
After attending the conference, participants should be able to:
- Provide effective communication withpatients in the advanced stages of canceror debilitating disease and provide qualityEnd-of-Life Care (knowledge, competence, performance, patient outcomes);
- Identify and interpret the moral and ethical dilemmas encountered in palliative care, incorporating supportive care strategies to improve patient care (knowledge, competence, performance, patient outcomes);
- Practice state-of-the-art pain and symptom management for patients with advanced disease (knowledge, competence, performance, patient outcomes);
- Apply palliative care principals to life threatening disease in populations not limited to cancer patients (knowledge, competence, performance).
Goal
Palliative and supportive cancer care is evolving to an important specialty to deliver optimal quality value-based care to cancer patients. Many clinicians are unaware of the need for whole patient care and attention to symptom management as well as quality of life improvements outside treatment of the primary disease. While cancer therapies are indeed crucial, the evolution of nontraditional health care settings places increasing emphasis on supportive care methods to improve quality of life for patients with advanced disease.
Caring for the cancer patient in the advanced stages of disease is particularly challenging to the healthcare team. It requires attending to the many dimensions of care including medical, psychosocial, ethical, and spiritual needs. In its 22nd year, the Interdisciplinary Conference on Supportive Care, Hospice & Palliative Medicine continues to offer participants educational updates to help them successfully implement new techniques and treatments in clinical practice to improve patient care and outcomes.
As a result of the participation in the Conference the conference organizing committee intends the participants to: Identify the moral and ethical dilemmas facing clinicians who provide End-of-Life care; Practice state-of-the art pain and symptom management for patients with advanced disease; Demonstrate effective communication with patients in advanced stages of cancer or debilitating disease and provide quality end-of-life care; and exhibit heightened awareness of medical, legal and spiritual issues facing patients and families involved in the care of advanced disease.

The EasyPay Station is a self-serve payment station and will take cash or credit cards. You feed your ticket into the machine, it tells you how much you owe, you then pay that amount and the machine returns your "paid" ticket. Take the "paid" ticket to the exit gate and feed it into a machine there to raise the gate and exit the garage.
Take the crosswalk on level 3 of Garage 10 into MD Anderson. The first set of elevators on your left (next to the guard station) can be used to access floor 11. As you exit the elevator on floor 11, you will be at the back of the auditorium. Turn to your left to follow the hallway to the registration desk and the front of the auditorium.
