QEP staff assesses curriculum portfolios prepared by SHP faculty as they develop curriculum and instructional activities related to critical thinking skills. The portfolio rubric was designed in-house to assess activities for each of the twelve critical thinking skills for their inclusion of five dimensions of the instructional lesson cycle (anticipatory set, presentation of new content, guided practice, independent practice, and assessment). The portfolio assessment process complements the current faculty instruction observation process as a measure of faculty success in applying skills learned during faculty development sessions. These combined processes provides evaluation and feedback for curriculum and instructional activities in SHP courses related to the critical thinking skills. Results of the portfolio assessment are included in the annual report and shared at the annual QEP retreat.
