The department of Faculty and Academic Development provides training and development opportunities for the faculty, trainees and students of MD Anderson Cancer Center. We offer services in the following areas:

Personal/Individual Development: 

  • Faculty Health & Well-being – Exercise programs, social gatherings, stress reduction programs; Faculty Assistance Program; confidential counseling and advising 
  • Productivity and Organizing – One-on-one and team consulting; time management; digital management; social media; apps for efficiency and effectiveness 

Professional Development: 

  • Interpersonal Communication and Relationship Enhancement (I*CARE) – Communication skill development for clinical staff 
  • Academic Development Programs (available to faculty, fellows and students): Career planning; promotion and tenure; grant writing; lab management; advising and counseling 
  • Teaching Skills and Quality Enhancement Program – Academy of Teaching and Learning; Quality Enhancement Program 
  • Management & Supervision Program (available to junior faculty) – Sessions covering professional communication; managing performance; developing goals, delegation, coaching; working with cultures & conflicts; strategy; team building; situational leadership 
  • Heart of Leadership Program – Leadership training; prerequisite for FLA 
  • Faculty Leadership Academy (FLA) – Skill development program for faculty 

Organizational Development: 

  • Chair Coaching Program / Team Alignments – Ongoing consulting and coaching with faculty leaders and/or their teams 
  • Faculty Mentoring Initiative – annual Provost's Distinguished Faculty Mentoring Awards; mentoring training resources; online tool for faculty onboarding, information and community engagement
