Service/Skilled Trades

Service is the tie that binds at MD Anderson Cancer Center. All of MD Anderson’s employees are proud to deliver world-class service to our patients, our peers and our community. There are careers in which service plays such a substantial role, that they can only be characterized by this term. These are essential functions that include dining services, transportation, materials management, University Police, housekeeping, safety and the skilled trades.    

Cook - Cooks work in a high volume food service environment to prepare a variety of quality food items for our patients, employees and visitors.

Housekeeping - Building Attendants and Floor Technicians perform a variety of cleaning tasks to maintain a clean and sanitary environment throughout the hospital, laboratories and office spaces.

Materials Management - Materials Management Representatives support the entire institution by providing inventory management, equipment management, receiving services and records management.

Physical Plant Technician - Physical Plant Technicians provide a vital service to MD Anderson’s facilities by performing general maintenance and repairs of all mechanical equipment, systems, buildings and grounds under minimum technical supervision.

Stationary Engineer - Stationary Engineers provide skilled work in the operation of central chilled water and steam system power plants.

HVAC/R Mechanic - HVAC and Refrigeration professionals utilize advanced craft skills in regards to the installation, maintenance and service of our heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Electrician - Electricians provide skilled electrical work of the journeyman level in installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, fixtures and equipment.

Instrumentation Technician - Instrumentation Technicians provide advanced technical skills in the installation, operation and maintenance of specialized electronic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic equipment and are responsible for various types of control and monitoring systems.

Plumber - Plumbers provide skilled plumbing work of the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance and repair of water, air, gas, sewer and steam lines and systems on the MD Anderson campus.

Safety Technician - Keeping our patients, employees and visitors safe is a vital service of our Safety Technicians who provide technical and compliance support.

Food Service - Food service workers provide friendly and courteous service to our patients, visitors and employees by assisting with food selections, providing explanations and directions about the food court, monitoring inventory, maintaining cleanliness and safety and assisting patients as necessary.

Room Service Assistant - Utilizing interpersonal and customer service skills, our Room Service Assistants assist patients and guests with menu selections that comply with prescribed diets and identified allergies in person or via phone.

Room Service Wait Staff - Room Service Wait Staff assemble, deliver and serve meals to our patients and guests utilizing excellent communication and interpersonal skills to positively impact the room service program.

Patient Escort - Escorting patients safely and efficiently by wheelchair and stretchers and transferring patients to and from beds is a vital role of our Patient Escorts.

Building Services Team Leader - Team Leaders supervise, plan and coordinate the daily activities of our building attendants and floor technicians to ensure quality and smooth operations of our housekeeping department.

University Police Guard - Utilizing strong customer service and interpersonal skills, our guards provide information and services in regards to parking, directions and visitor’s permits, and report all irregularities, emergencies or suspicious activities to the University Police Department.

Cashier - Demonstrating good guest relations skills with patients, visitors, employees and managers, our cashiers perform cash handling transactions in the various coffee bars and cafes throughout MD Anderson facilities.

Driver - Ensuring safe and efficient operation of vehicles and demonstrating good customer service skills, our drivers transport patients, employees and visitors, deliver and pick up merchandise, supplies and equipment and load and unload materials at the warehouse.
