How to Apply
At MD Anderson, we’re looking for talented individuals eager to develop their skills and further their careers in oncology-related fields.
If you are selected as a final candidate, be prepared to answer both general questions about your background, as well as specific questions about projects you have worked on or situations you have encountered in your previous experience. If you are selected to participate in our programs, you may be required to complete specific requirements (see below).
Education Credentials
Applicants for research trainee positions at MD Anderson must submit a credential evaluation prior to the extension of an offer if they are using degrees or education credentials obtained outside the United States to meet the minimum education requirement for the position of consideration. Credential evaluations are also required to confirm the academic equivalency of applicants who are currently enrolled at institutions/programs outside the United States.
The evaluating company must provide the following:
For Postdoctoral Fellows/Research Interns:
- a certified translation of your diploma, if not in English;
- verification of accreditation of the foreign university;
- the equivalency of non-U.S. degree(s) to a U.S. degree(s);
- verification of your attendance at and graduation from that university
For Graduate Students:
- verification of current enrollment and U.S. academic program/level equivalency
Any expense to obtain this evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate. Our office requires a general evaluation. Please instruct the evaluation company to mail the original evaluation to your department of appointment. Electronic copies may be accepted if they are emailed directly by the credentialing company to the MD Anderson department administrator.
The following is a list of accredited education evaluation companies that provide institutionally approved foreign educational evaluations for research trainees. Only evaluations conducted by an agency listed below will be accepted:

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center does not endorse any of the listed companies; rather, as accredited foreign education evaluation agencies, they have been identified as providing sufficient and acceptable foreign education evaluation services.
Immunization Compliance
It is the policy of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to require trainees and other members of MD Anderson’s workforce to receive vaccines for preventable diseases as specified by MD Anderson and based on the level of risk they present to patients. CastleBranch, one of the top ten compliance management companies in the nation partnered with the institution to manage your time-sensitive immunization requirements.
IMPORTANT** To prevent a delay in your MD Anderson appointment start date, please create your account with CastleBranch and submit all required documents as early as possible.
Immunization Requirements:
Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR)
There must be documentation of one of the following:
• 2 vaccinations
• Positive antibody titers for all 3 components (lab reports required)
Varicella (Chicken Pox)
There must be documentation of one of the following:
• 2 vaccinations
• Positive antibody titer (lab reports required)
• Medical documentation of history of chicken pox
TB Skin Test
There must be documentation of one of the following:
• A negative PPD skin test AND Respiratory Query within 3 months of the CastleBranch account initiation
• If PPD skin test is Positive, submit positive PPD skin test AND a Negative Chest X-Ray dated on or after the positive PPD skin test result, but within the past 10 years AND Respiratory Query within 3 months of Castle Branch account initiation.
***Please note that a BLOOD TEST (e.g., QuantiFERON Gold Blood Test, T-spot, etc) is NOT ACCEPTABLE for this requirement***
Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis (Tdap)
Provide documentation of a Tdap booster within the past 10 years
Influenza
Submit documentation of a flu shot administered during the current flu season. Document must include the name of the recipient, the date the flu shot was given, the vaccine manufacturer, expiration date, the lot number and the signature of the health care provider, OR print and complete the Flu Declination Form.
For titers, a lab report is required or documentation must be signed or stamped by a physician to be acceptable.
For international student immunizations/titers/chest x-rays: Applicant must submit the original foreign language document AND the translated document. Translated document must be signed or stamped by a physician to be acceptable.
Drug & Tobacco Testing
Under the provisions of the MD Anderson Drug Detection and Deterrence Policy, trainees eligible to receive insurance benefits while appointed at MD Anderson are required to complete a post offer drug and tobacco screening.
Sanctions Check and Criminal and Personal History Background Check
It is the policy of MD Anderson to conduct the appropriate background checks on applicants who have been approved for a trainee appointment. Clearance to begin an appointment/program is contingent upon verification of a cleared sanction check conducted through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as well as a cleared criminal and personal history background checks.
International VISA Clearance
The MD Anderson Visa & Immigration Service Administration (VISA) is responsible for signing all immigration petitions sponsored or filed on behalf of the institution. Trainees who are non US citizens or permanent residents are encouraged to check in 2-3 days prior to their start date to receive clearance to start their appointment/program.
