M. D. Anderson Valet Parking Rates Increase; Alkek Valet Service to Close

Volunteer Voice - Fall 2007

Valet parking rates at M. D. Anderson increased to a flat rate of $15 per vehicle on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007. This increase, which is comparable with services at other hospitals in the Texas Medical Center, is necessary to reduce valet traffic in preparation for the Alkek Expansion project and to lessen the wait time for vehicle retrieval for our patients. The rate is for up to 24 hours and does not include in and out privileges.

On Saturday, Sept. 1, valet services at Clark Clinic began operating 24/7 to better accommodate patients and their families. Credit cards are now accepted at a cashier booth in Clark Clinic to pay for these services.

In early November, the Alkek rotunda drive will close and valet services at Alkek Hospital will move to Clark Clinic to accommodate the multi-year Alkek Expansion. This project will impact patient admission, discharge, shuttle services, drop off and pick up, vehicle and pedestrian traffic, as well as valet services.

The valet service currently parks 950 to 1,000 cars per day from Alkek Hospital and Clark Clinic. Wait times may exceed 30 minutes, which is burdensome to our patients.

Our valet service is for patients, their families and/or patients’ visitors only. Employees, employees’ visitors, contractors, pharmaceutical representatives and other vendors must self-park in Garages 2 or 10 or in alternate locations.

Main Building volunteers are strongly encouraged to park in Garage 10. Those at Mays Clinic will continue to park as usual.

The maximum rate in Garage 10 is $10 per vehicle per day. This may be an alternative for some patients as there is a designated Floor 3 patient drop off and a covered walkway to the Main Building.

M. D. Anderson management appreciates your help in helping us explain these changes to our patients and their families. Your cooperation will enable us to provide this premium valet service for our patients.
