Lovell A. Jones, Ph.D., Recognized for Excellent Work in Health DisparitiesLovell Jones

Lovell A. Jones, Ph.D., professor of Health Disparities Research and director of the Center for Research on Minority Health at M. D. Anderson, was honored by the Houston Wellness Association at its Salute to Black History Month luncheon in April. A leader in ending health disparities through research, education, community service and clinical studies, Jones received a proclamation from Houston Mayor Bill White, a certificate of congressional recognition from Sheila Jackson Lee and a lifetime membership to the Houston Wellness Association.  

Jones also received the 2008 Health Disparities Excellence Award, given by the U.S. Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health. This award recognizes outstanding work in ending health disparities in minority communities. Jones received the award at a banquet held in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health’s The Science of Eliminating Health Disparities summit in December 2008.
