Family Matters - Summer 2010
Summertime products from the Children's Art Project
With spring behind us and summer here in full force, a fresh new line of products from young patients in MD Anderson’s Children’s Cancer Hospital is available for summer gifts and writing.
Since many children are away at summer camp, a special camp card was developed to make corresponding with friends and family easy on the camper. A young raccoon and two owls appear on the card with lines drawn in to record the news from camp. These cards are packed in sets of 10 for $7. The same design is used on a thank you card, also 10 cards and envelopes for $7. The owls show up again on a list pad that’s perfect to keep on the refrigerator to use for quick notes and grocery lists. The 50-sheet pad sells for $8.
Many children have artwork in the newest CAP book, “Our Shadow Garden.” With a story written by landscape designer Cherie Foster Colburn, the book blends the art of the young cancer patients with her storyline and adds information about nocturnal creatures and plants. The creative book is a perfect bedtime read and sells for $20.
Shoppers will also find sunflower blooms on a new note card (8 cards and envelopes, $8), a note pad (75 sheets, $6) and a sticky pad (75 die-cut sheets, $7). There’s also a list pad with a wheelbarrow full of blossoms (50 sheets, $8) and special waterproof, rubber tread soled garden clogs with spring flowers brightening up the shoe ($32).
“Each young artist brings a fresh perspective to the designs they create,” says Shannan Murray, executive director of the art project. “We love creating the cards and gifts that showcase their artwork.”
“Every product helps us make our commitment to making life better for kids with cancer,” Murray explains. “The funds that CAP returns to MD Anderson help support programs such as summer camps, the in-hospital education program, college scholarships and much more.”
Houston shoppers can find items at area grocery stores and other small retail establishments (stationery items only), the Children’s Art Project Boutique in the Uptown Park Shopping Center and at all four MD Anderson gift shops. The products are also available online at www.childrensart.org or by calling 800-231-1580 to place an order or receive a free catalogue.
