Family Matters - Winter 2008
Dulce
I am the girl
looking at the camera
I am the girl
who wants to play with the kids
play like a dolphin
inside my jacket of colors
with my girly clown nose
My cheeks are rosy
I like the color of my lips
My clown name is Dulce
a name I love
My transplant donor is a clown
I know nothing else
about her so I say that
I am a clown
My hair is pink, my favorite color
I chose it for my wig and it makes kids laugh
I want to do more for the kids
who have cancer so they can
be happy though they have
the same condition as me
Astrid Camacho
12 years old
Astrid and several patients from the Children's Cancer Hospital altered portraits of themselves using mixed media on watercolor paper. Their artwork was exhibited last spring at the Museum of Printing History as part of PhotoFest. These photos were taken on opening night of the exhibit.
