Annual Report - Winter 2009

Philanthropy plays as vital a role today as it did in MD Anderson’s beginning, when money appropriated by the Texas Legislature was matched by the MD Anderson Foundation to establish this institution to investigate and treat cancer. With private support providing “seed” money for innovative ideas, researchers are able to successfully compete for federal funding. Philanthropy also aids in recruiting new faculty, propels scientific findings from the labs to the clinics, and allows for the creation of programs that look beyond treatment to prevention and survivorship issues. Each gift to MD Anderson carries with it hope for a future free from cancer.
