Jennie Bennett - Breast Cancer
"I was too busy to be sick," says 50-year old Jennie Bennett, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996. Dr. Bennett, a textbook author who helps create mathematics courses at the state and national level, says her immediate reaction to the diagnosis was that she was going to die. "I reacted on feelings first, and I had to go back and rely on my faith that God would get me through this ordeal," she says.
Jennie’s religious convictions became stronger after surviving breast cancer, and also led her to "minister" to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. "I talk to women regularly, to let them know that there is hope, and cures are available."
She urges women to educate themselves about breast cancer so they can make decisions about treatment. "Learn and understand the medical terms that your doctors use, and get a second opinion on the treatment options," she advises.
Her best advice? "Seek prayer." It seems to have worked wonderfully for Jennie.
