Janis Haase - Breast Cancer
When Janis Haase was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, all she could think about was how she would look when her hair fell out. The Kingwood, Texas grandmother had non-cancerous breast lumps removed before, and wasn’t prepared to hear that this time, it really was cancer. "I was told that because my cancer was so advanced, I needed a radical mastectomy and chemotherapy right away," Janis says. "I must have been in denial, because here I was with a life-threatening disease, and I was worried about becoming bald!"
Janis credits her family and "lots of prayers" for helping her cope with cancer, but ultimately, she says, the real strength comes from inside. "You have to fight as hard as you can and keep a positive attitude when dealing with cancer." She continued to work throughout her treatment, and recommends that other cancer patients lead as normal a life as possible. "As a member of the Anderson Network, I try to let other cancer patients know how important their attitude is in conquering this disease."
