Art Herzog - Prostate Cancer
You may have seen Art Herzog on television or in the newspaper, riding a motorcycle with the wind in his face. He is not an actor—he is a prostate cancer survivor who wants to help others with the disease. "When I was being treated in 1990, all I had to talk to were the other ‘old geezers’ in the prostate clinic at M. D. Anderson."
It was only after he’d beaten his cancer that Art discovered the Anderson Network, and has since become a pillar of strength for dozens of other men facing the same battle.
In the years since his treatment, Art has found out what’s really important. In 1999, he and his wife rode over 21,000 miles on their matching Gold Wing motorcycles. "It’s easier to ask me where I haven’t been," he says. "I hadn’t ridden a bike in 20 years before my cancer, and now, it’s a way of life." He believes surviving cancer is just like life—a door doesn’t close without another one opening.
