Employee Cancer Support Group

The Employee Cancer Support Group provides hope and support to employees currently undergoing treatment or who have been treated for cancer. The group was born from the idea of an M. D. Anderson employee cancer patient who felt there was a need for a forum where other employee cancer patients and survivors could come together to discuss common concerns, fears and experiences.

As the needs of an employee cancer patient differ from those of external patients, the Anderson Network has created this program to fulfill those needs.

The group meets twice a month, during the lunch hour, in the Main Building and in the Cancer Prevention Building. Social workers, staff from the Employee Assistance Program and nurse counseling specialists facilitate the meetings, which alternate between open support group sessions and informative presentations pertinent to the needs of members.

The Employee Cancer Support Group also has its own online message board. Much like group meetings, the message board provides a venue for employee cancer patients and survivors to share thoughts and ideas they have about cancer and the effect it has on them personally and professionally.

Subscribers to the board can log on anytime from the comfort of their home or desk to read and post messages of hope, look at upcoming Employee Cancer Support Group meetings and events and view past meeting materials, handouts and presentations. For information on how to subscribe to the message board, call Anderson Network at (713) 792-2553.
