Cancer Pain Service
The Cancer Pain Service sees outpatients in the Pain Management Center, an advanced care center for the evaluation, follow-up and treatment of cancer or cancer-related pain, including acute and chronic pain. The Cancer Pain Service also provides consultation services to adjust the treatment plans of inpatients that experience pain related to their underlying disease.
The pain management team sees approximately 7,000 patients a year, and that number continues to grow as services expand.
Optimum pain control is achieved by:

- Using a combination of pain management strategies such as non-pharmacologic methods, pharmacotherapy, nerve blocks, implants and other procedural pain management techniques, including vertebroplasty
- Practicing the continuum of care, beginning with a comprehensive assessment
- Frequent reassessment to adjust treatment plans when necessary
- A multidisciplinary approach involving professionals from various disciplines, including psychiatry, neurosurgery and interventional radiology
