Geriatrics Clinic

MD Anderson sees over 7,000 new patients every year who are at least 70 years of age.  Many of them have health conditions that must be managed along with their cancer treatment for the best possible outcome.

MD Anderson's Geriatrics Clinic, one of the first to be established in a comprehensive cancer center, focuses on identifying and managing aging-related conditions such as:

  • Chronic disease
  • Dementia
  • Bone loss
  • Nutritional issues
  • Polypharmacy (taking multiple drugs)
  • Geriatric syndromes: falls, mobility problems, weakness, frailty, memory loss and confusion

By treating these conditions in conjunction with cancer treatment, our geriatric oncologists can help older patients maximize the effectiveness of their cancer treatment and lessen the impact of treatment-related side effects.

Referrals

The Geriatrics Clinic accepts referrals from MD Anderson patients or their MD Anderson physicians.
