Monday, June 3

Massages

Enjoy a complimentary 10-15 minute massage for patients and family members (offered first-come, first served).

Nutrition in a Nutshell

Nutrition is a key component to health and wellness. We will provide attendees with evidence-based recommendations to reduce cancer risks and offer simple ways to nourish body and soul.

Attitude: The Difference Maker

Join a lively discussion on what attitude can and can’t do for individuals. You’ll leave with a better understanding of how attitude can be your greatest asset and can make a difference in your life and the lives of others.

Facing the Mirror with Cancer

Hosted by Lori Ovitz, a sought-after makeup artist to top models and celebrities for more than 20 years, survivors will learn step-by-step tips and techniques for dealing with appearance issues during cancer treatment and beyond.

The Art of Calm

When life becomes intolerably stressful, the temptation is often to blame external influences. This interactive session will provide tools to help attendees build the knowledge and skills necessary to practice the “art of being calm.”

Healthy Cooking

Come sample and learn how to make healthier meals for your family during a cooking demonstration with MD Anderson nutritionists. Sample healthy recipes from the At the Table online cookbook at www.mdanderson.org/recipes. Seating is limited to the first 20 attendees.

Fear of Recurrence and Late Effects: Living with Uncertainty

This educational forum, hosted by Anderson Network’s PIKNIC (Partners In Knowledge, News In Cancer), offers survivors, their families and friends practical information on coping with issues that arise after treatment ends. After listening to a pre-recorded podcast, an MD Anderson expert will open the floor for a live Q&A session. Lunch provided to the first 15 patients and caregivers.

Survivorship: a New Look at Cancer for Patients and Families

Survivor Stories: Coping with Body Image Changes Due to Cancer and its Treatment

Listen to personal stories shared by three cancer survivors. Male and female survivors will talk about coming to terms with changes in their appearance resulting from their disease. Lunch provided to the first 25 patients and caregivers.

Gaining Wisdom Through Journaling

This session will introduce attendees to the basics of journaling and ways to better understand one’s story and discover the power inside.

Rotary Night Social with Ezra Charles

Join us for a night of light snacks and music, featuring jazz musician Ezra Charles. This event is sponsored by the Rotary House of Houston.

This session will help you consider a diet or “daily journey” for adding joy to your life. These 10 daily practices can help your life be more satisfying and fulfilling.

Location: Gazebo, Main Building, Floor 3 (between Elevators B & C)

Daily Activities

Stop by The Park, located in the Main Building on Floor 2 near the Gift Shop, from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. There’ll be lots going on, including the activities below.

Musical performances: Relax and enjoy the sweet sounds of live instrumental performances throughout the week.

Survivor stories: a short film: Take a break while watching survivors tell their inspiring stories of living with, through and beyond cancer.

Crafts: Spend some creative time on craft activities like greeting cards, origami and balloon twisting.

Photo booth: Capture the moment by taking a fun photo with friends and family members.

Scarf-tying demonstrations: Learn easy tips for tying a stylish head scarf.
