About Cancer Newsline

Cancer Newsline is a collection of audio podcasts and videos featuring the latest in cancer treatment and research as well as other topics that may affect the cancer patient/caregiver. In our series, medical experts address their audience of cancer patients, caretakers, and healthy public, using laymen’s terms helping you understand the subject matter.

What is a Podcast?

A podcast makes an audio file, typically an MP3 file, available online for downloading via an automatic "feed." You can then hear the podcast whenever you want from your computer or a portable media player.

Lisa Garvin

Lisa Garvin spent 15 years as a radio news reporter and anchor in the Houston/Galveston area before coming to MD Anderson in 2000. 

Her broadcasting career included six years as the local anchor of National Public Radio’s Morning Edition. She produced dozens of medical news stories, honing her skills as a subject matter expert on a wide range of medical topics. 

Lisa currently works in the Internet Services department, where she writes and edits web content about cancer.

Edward Kim, M.D.

Dr. Edward Kim, MD, is Assistant Professor, Department of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology, at MD Anderson Cancer Center and is dually appointed as the Director of Educational Program, Department of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical.  

Dr. Kim is a nationally recognized lecturer and has served as co-investigator in numerous research and grant projects. He is a recognized author in several peer-reviewed medical journals, invited articles, abstracts, and book chapters.  




Leonard Zwelling, M.D., M.B.A.

Dr. Zwelling is Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow and a Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology MD Anderson Cancer Center. His specializations include development of innovative methods of clinical trial design, quality control, and general research operations. 

Dr. Zwelling received his medical degree, residency training and fellowship training from Duke University Hospital. He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He has authored more than 100 scientific articles and 20 book chapters and has delivered more than 80 lectures.
