How You Can Help

Request the Van

If you are interested in becoming a site coordinator for your location, please review the requirement/eligibility guidelines located in the site coordinator packet below. If you feel your location would meet these guidelines, please call the Program Coordinator at 713-792-2703 or the scheduling line at 713-745-4000 for more information regarding the mobile unit availability. Please be aware that our operation is not an effective delivery method in a health fair setting.

Once you have your scheduled date, as a site coordinator, you will work with the Program Coordinator and carry out the following responsibilities:

Schedule site visit with Program Coordinator three months prior to scheduled date.

Arrange for a suitable location. The Mobile Mammography van must be parked on a paved, level area. The van is 38 feet long and requires a 9-foot width and 14-foot height clearance. Sharp turns in narrow areas cannot be made in this van. Low tree branches in the parking area should be avoided. Restrooms are not available on the mobile van. The parking site should be near restrooms for use by clients and staff. If a parking permit or a meter bagging permit is required, the Site Coordinator will be responsible for obtaining one from the City of Houston prior to the screening date.

Visit the mobile mammography website before the scheduled mobile visit to read updated information, site coordinator responsibilities, and to download the necessary site coordinator materials.

Verify the mobile mammography screening price because it is subject to change on a yearly basis for self-pay patients and invoiced sites.

Publicize the program 60-90 days prior to scheduled date by distributing fliers provided by MD Anderson and other communication channels. Be sure to include information about eligibility criteria and the reasons for them.

Answer or refer questions about the screening.

Ensure that a minimum of 15 women are signed up no fewer than 10 business days before the screening date. If the minimum requirement is not met by the deadline, the mobile visit will be subject to cancellation. All appointments will be scheduled until three business days prior to the mobile visit. The maximum number of mammograms that can be done in one day is 27.

Assist in following up with women whose mammograms are abnormal.
