How You Can Help
An Evening of Hope Wine Extravaganza
About 50 of the world’s top wine makers will be pouring into Houston this weekend to raise funds for prostate cancer research.
An Evening of Hope Wine Extravaganza will be held from 6 to 11 p.m., October 3 at Masraff’s on Post Oak Lane in Houston, said restaurateur Tony Masraff.
“It’s the best place for these wine makers to show off their wine,” Masraff said.
It’s also a great place for collectors to buy a great bottle of wine while also donating to a great cause, he added.
Each year Masraff closes his restaurant and brings in some of the world’s best wine makers to showcase their top varietals. Besides donating their vino for the tasting, the vintners also provide bottles for the silent auction, Masraff said.
Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Dr. Christopher Logothetis and Dr. Timothy Thompson's Non-Invasive Prostate Cancer Research (TPCR) at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Masraff was diagnosed with prostate cancer 11 years ago and is a patient advocate for the M. D. Anderson SPORE in prostate cancer. He also founded Tony’s Prostate Cancer Research, a foundation that provides support for men and their families through educational awareness and fundraising for noninvasive prostate cancer research.
Besides the wine-tasting fundraiser at Masraff’s, TPCR also holds an annual spring golf tournament in Houston. This year’s event raised $150,000 for noninvasive prostate cancer research.
