Silent Auction Benefits Lung Cancer Research Program
October 2008
Albert Goldreich has a soft spot for The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Goldreich, one of six owners of the 18 Hands Gallery in the Heights area of Houston, cares for M. D. Anderson so much that he came up with a fund raising event to benefit the institution.
Goldreich’s first efforts to raise money for M. D. Anderson involved an ambitious 192-mile mountainous trek across England last year. After visiting M. D. Anderson to see how the proceeds from his endeavor would be put to work, Goldreich, 70, and his business partners launched the idea of Art for a Cure.
The inaugural event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m., November 15, at 18 Hands Gallery, 249 W. 19th Street in Houston. Proceeds will benefit the institution’s Lung Cancer Research Program led by Roy S. Herbst, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chief, Section of Thoracic Medical Oncology.
The front part of the gallery will be filled with artwork being made for the silent auction and 100 percent of the sales will benefit M. D. Anderson. The art will include pottery, paintings and jewelry. Ten percent of gallery sales that evening also will be donated to the institution, he said.
