Sprint for Life

Save the Date!

The 13th annual Sprint for Life 5K Run/Walk and Sprint for Sprouts Kids’ Run is scheduled for Saturday, May 1, 2010 on the campus of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Hosted by M. D. Anderson’s Department of Gynecologic Oncology, Sprint for Life is the event fundraiser for ovarian cancer research. To date, the event has raised over $2.3 million for the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program at M. D. Anderson.

Held every May, the event celebrates ovarian cancer survivors who come together with their families and friends, local businesses, corporations and M. D. Anderson employees to help raise funds and increase awareness about ovarian cancer.

2010 Sprint for Life Leadership

The Department of Gynecologic Oncology and the Sprint for Life organizers deeply appreciate the support of event chair Marcy E. Kurtz and honorary co-chairs Kelli Blanton and Eddy Scurlock Blanton, Sr., Gayle Goodman, and Andreae Behlen LeMaistre and Charles A. LeMaistre, M.D. Laura Lee Scurlock Blanton and Sandra G. Davis are the courageous women for whom the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program is named.

Why Your Support Is Important

This year, about 22,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 15,000 women will die, making ovarian cancer the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers. Unfortunately, because there is no screening or early detection test available and the symptoms are subtle, only 25% of ovarian tumors are detected before they have progressed to an advanced stage.
