How You Can Help

Brain Tumor Center Research

Finding new treatments for central nervous system (CNS) tumors and metastases through research is our central mission. Promising new agents and new approaches are currently being tested in the laboratory—among them, gene therapy to target and kill cancer cells or to disrupt the signaling pathways that control tumor growth.

We are finding that combining the new with the traditional proven treatments can often improve the effectiveness of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. Above all, through our translational research program, our goal is for research in the laboratory to reach the patient quickly and safely.

Our Patient-Focused Research

  • We are rapidly moving laboratory findings into clinical studies in order to offer new, more effective treatment for tumors
  • We are improving survival rates and the quality of life for brain tumor patients
  • We are examining the genetic abnormalities and molecular events that cause tumors to develop and spread in our ongoing effort to offer better treatment options based on that understanding

Why Our Work Must Continue

The progression of a brain tumor is complex, with numerous biochemical and molecular pathways under genetic control in each individual cancer patient. The Brain Tumor Center is able to pull together the expertise of researchers in many of the areas that impact brain tumor progression. And the tradition of close collaboration with physicians in the clinic makes MD Anderson the ideal environment for treatment breakthroughs. Your donation is a gift of hope for brain tumor patients everywhere.
