M. D. Anderson renovates Clark Clinic

M. D. Anderson’s R. Lee Clark Clinic, the main hospital access point for patients and visitors, is under renovation. The renovation is scheduled for completion in February 2005. Project enhancements include:

• An enlarged, covered patient drop off area
• Improved valet queuing area along Bates Street, in front of Clark Clinic
• Pedestrian bridge over Holcombe to M. D. Anderson’s new Ambulatory Clinical and Cancer Prevention Buildings
• Additional seating in Clark Clinic lobby
• Atrium atmosphere with escalators connecting Clark Clinic’s first, second and third floors
• Further development of meandering gardens

Construction Update

On Monday, Nov. 22, The R. Lee Clark Clinic entrance and lobby will re-open after a yearlong renovation closure. Beginning Monday, patients can be dropped off in front of the clinic and enter through its new, central front door. Patient valet parking will return to the front of Clark Clinic.

Also that day, the LeMaistre Clinic entrance, which had been used as a temporary entrance and exit for patients, will close. The Bates Street sidewalk in front of LeMaistre Clinic will be fenced off while additional street renovations are made. Construction will continue on Bates Street until the renovation project is complete in February 2005.

Due to the closure of the Bates Street sidewalk, employees using the Garage 5 drive-through lane for drop off and pick up, and those who park in Garage 5, must travel to Garage 10 and use the third or fourth floor pedestrian bridges to enter M. D. Anderson. Employees should continue to use the Faculty Center for drop off and pick up. Employee drop off and pick up won't be permitted in front of Clark Clinic until the renovation project is complete in February 2005.

Employee shuttles traveling to the Main Building will continue to drop off and pick up in front of Alkek Hospital. Patient shuttles will drop off and pick up in front of Clark Clinic.

Due to construction in the immediate area , Place...of wellness will temporarily relocate to B6 beginning Dec. 20. Place ...of wellness will continue providing complementary care programs to patients, families and caregivers.

To reach the temporary location from the Clark Clinic lobby, take the RA elevator to the 6th floor, and follow the signs to the Blue Zone. Additional impacts of the Clark Clinic renovation through February 2005 include:

• Clark Clinic lobby will close intermittently on nights and weekends for additional (minor) renovation work
• The clinic's second floor, south corridor connecting the RA and RB elevators will remain closed through December
• The new pedestrian bridge connecting Clark Clinic's third floor to the Faculty Center is expected to open in February 2005
