PROSPR Shared Resource

The Patient-Reported Outcomes, Survey and Population Research (PROSPR) Shared Resource provides researchers with access to state-of-the-art patient-reported outcome (PRO), quality of life, psychological and behavioral questionnaires and assessment methods. Our services include assisting investigators in identifying existing measures, developing new measures, designing data collection strategies and conducting psychometric analysis. The PROSPR Shared Resource will also develop databases for the questionnaire data entry, participant tracking databases and computer- and Web-based assessments. Additionally, the PROSPR Shared Resource maintains a library of existing questionnaires, along with information pertaining to their reliability, validity and scoring.

Getting Started

Consultations may be initiated by contacting Carol Rosenblum at 713-745-2388 or by e-mail to crosenbl@mdanderson.org.

Consultations usually consist of a brief meeting to discuss the investigator's needs and the type of services he or she requires. The Core manager, in consultation with other PROSPR staff, then prepares an estimate of the effort and personnel costs involved. The investigator is provided with a service proposal that must be signed before the start of any work. Issues considered when determining the level of staff and percent effort required are as follows:

  • Research needed to determine the appropriate assessment tools
  • Number of questionnaires to be administered and the length of each of these questionnaires
  • Total patient accrual
  • Database development needs
  • Data entry requirements

Assistance with grant proposals is provided at no charge, if the PROSPR Shared Resource services are included in the grant budget. Additionally, items currently in our library (e.g., questionnaires and validation articles) are provided at no charge. This list of questionnaires can be accessed through our library which is linked to this site. Extensive questionnaire research, which may involve contacting original authors for more information can be provided for a minimal fee.
