Keck Institutional Vector Core

Overview

The Keck Institutional Vector Core (KIVC) provides support to investigators using viral based vectors in research. Investigators may be using vectors to pursue gene therapy studies or exploiting vectors to deliver genes to analyze gene functions, signal transduction pathways or growth regulation. All research studies using viral vectors will benefit from the employment of high quality well-characterized vectors.

The KIVC contains an extensive collection of adenovirus vectors available for direct purchase or investigators may provide their own adenovirus vector seed lots to the Adenovirus Vector Section for production. Basic adenovirus quality control tests are also available (Replication Competent Adenovirus; Endotoxin; Titration).

Investigators interested in retrovirus vector production or retrovirus quality control tests (Replication Competent Retrovirus; RT; PG4 Focus Formation Assay) may obtain services from the Retrovirus and Other Virus Vector Section. The Retrovirus Section also provides training for technical staff, graduate students, Ph.D.s and M.D.s. Trainees directly participate in the production and characterization of viral vectors in a bio-containment facility.

The Keck Institutional Vector Core Laboratory can produce up to 18 liters of crude vector supernatant in a single collection. GMP production services are not provided.
