Services and Fees*

Electroporations

  • Electroporation includes picking of all colonies surviving selection up to 288 clones (3 x 96-well plates) and expansion of up to three clones. Germline transmission is not guaranteed
  • Fee: $4000
  • Available at both North and South Campus sites

Picking of 96-Well Plates

  • Additional 96-well plates picked
  • Fee: $250/plate
  • Available at both North and South Campus sites

Colonies from 96-Well Plates

  • ES cell expansion of additional colonies from 96-well plates
  • Fee: $250/clone
  • Available at both North and South Campus sites

Expansion of a Vial of ES Cells

  • This includes expansion of ES cells brought in from outside (e.g., BayGenomics cells) and further expansion of ES cells generated on site
  • Fee: $250/sample
  • Available at both North and South Campus sites

Generation of ES Cells from Blastocysts

  • ES cell generation will include the isolation of the inner cell mass and subsequent growth ES cells from blastocysts obtained from five to 10 superovulated females
  • Fee: $4000

Blastocyst Injections and Morula Aggregations

  • Blastocyst injections and morula aggregations includes injection of 50 blastocysts or aggregation of 50 morulae for all cell lines. For cell lines produced by the GEMF, we will substitute an additional clone (if available) for a clone that does not produce chimeras
  • Fee: $1300
  • Available at both North and South Campus sites

Pronuclear Injections

  • Pronuclear injections includes a guarantee of three founders for constructs injected into C57BL/6, FVB and B6D2F1 strains. For BAC transgenics, we only guarantee the injection of 200 embryos; there is no founder guarantee for BAC transgenics
  • Fee: $1300

Animal Care

  • Tail-clipping and numbering of animals
  • Fee: $10/animal

Standard Embryo Cryopreservation

  • Standard Embryo Cryopreservation: We will cryopreserve 200 embryos at morula stage (for those strains amenable to this procedure) as well as four vials of sperm. We generally average 15 good morulae from a C57BL/6 or hybrid, non-transgenic, superovulated female that is mated to a fertile male. We will apply a 10% discount for supplying proven male breeders to be demonstrated as follows:
    • Age = 3-6 months
    • Breeding records indicating two recent litters of more than six pups
  • Fee: $600/session

Sperm Cryopreservation

  • Sperm Cryopreservation: We will freeze a minimum of five and a maximum of 25 straws of sperm for each line. You will need to supply two to four males that have undergone previous mating, and that are about 6 months of age
  • Fee: $325

IVF-Cryopreservation

  • IVF-Cryopreservation: We will vitrify 200 two-cell embryos from IVF done with sperm from a heterozygous male, and 100 two-cell embryos from IVF done with sperm from a homozygous male. Please note: Waiting time for this procedure may be long.
  • Fee: $900/session

Rederivation (Standard Procedure)

  • Rederivation: We will apply a 10% discount for supplying proven male breeders to be demonstrated as follows:
    • Age = 3-6 months
    • Breeding records indicating two recent litters of more than six pups
  • We will reduce this fee by half if the investigator provides oviducts from superovulated, mated females or frozen embryos for the procedure
  • Fee: $350/session

In Vitro Fertilization

  • In Vitro Fertilization: We will use fresh or previously frozen sperm to fertilize oocytes obtained from five to 10 superovulated females. All embryos surviving to the two-cell stage will be implanted into pseudopregnant females for gestation. All surviving pups will be transferred to the contracting investigator
  • Fee: $600

Mouse Resource Facility

Services and Fees

Mouse Resource Facility services and fees are as follows:

  • Mice: $30/mouse
  • Excess stock animals (wild type): $15/mouse
  • Library: $30/aliquot
  • BAC filter: $30/use
  • Northern filter: $30/use
  • Straw of frozen embryos: $50/straw
  • Hormones (PMS and HCG): $20/set
  • Embryo flushing and packing for shipping: $30
  • M15 media: $30/50 ml

Liquid Nitrogen Storage

  • Additional charges for fees charged to the GEMF by VetMed (for animals maintained in the GEMF past weaning, technical fees for superovulation and mating procedures, packaging and shipping fees or fees for health certificates) will be allocated to the appropriate PI as necessary
  • Fee: $10/project/year

* All fees stated are for "in-house" investigators. PIs from outside institutions should contact the GEMF manager for more information.
