MD Anderson: Integrative Medicine Program
Monthly Educational Opportunities
Complementary and Integrative Medicine Course (CIM Course)
This course is designed to provide an overview of the major therapies offered through the Integrative Medicine Program. Course topics will specifically focus on integrative approaches through therapies such as acupuncture, static and dynamic mind-body techniques, music therapy, massage therapy and nutritional counseling, which can all be used to enhance conventional treatment outcomes. Specific clinical recommendations and resources for referral will be provided. Please bring your lunch and join us the second Tuesday of each month, with the exception of August and December. Monthly topics & locations are posted on the MDA events calendar.

Integrative Medicine Lecture Series
This Lecture Series hosts expert speakers from around the world to present state-of-the art research and clinical programs in the area of integrative medicine. Topics deal with evidence-based research on complementary cancer treatments and therapies. Monthly topics & locations are posted on the MDA events calendar.

Learn how to navigate websites, evaluate natural products for quality and safety, and most importantly how to discuss Complementary and Integrative Medicine (CIM) with your doctor.

P.I.K.N.I.C. (Partners In Knowledge, News In Cancer)
A weekly educational forum for patients, caregivers, faculty and staff who want to learn more about issues relevant to cancer. Sessions are led by experts from MD Anderson or the Houston community on a variety of topics. Weekly topics and locations are posted on the Anderson Network webpage as well as the MD Anderson events calendar.

The Collective Soul Symposium: Relieving Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Suffering of Persons with Advanced Illness and Their Caregivers
The purpose of this advanced course is to provide a better understanding of the Palliative Care Team's role in relieving biopsychosocial and spiritual suffering. The course is aimed at chaplains, nurses, social workers, as well as other health care professionals delivering spiritual care in the community and in healthcare facilities.

Living the Anti-Cancer Life: The Legacy of David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD
During this presentation, Dr. Lorenzo Cohen, Integrative Medicine Program Director at MD Anderson Cancer Center, will give an update on the research detailed in Servan-Schreiber's best-selling book Anti-Cancer. Franklin Servan-Schreiber will share his year by his brother's side - the struggles and the laughs in the face of terminal illness, David's motivation for writing his last book, and what he feels were the important messages bearing the gift of hope against despair.

Integrative Medicine Program's 8th Workshop for Acupuncturists, Massage Therapists and Yoga Teachers
This course will provide licensed massage therapists, licensed acupuncturists and trained yoga teachers an overview of evidence-based practice in cancer care. Topics of recent research findings, recommendations for treating common side-effects, ethical issues, safety issues and case presentations will be presented.
This course is open to licensed acupuncturists, licensed massage therapists and yoga teachers.

9th Annual Natural Supplements: An Evidence-Based Update
This conference will provide a clinically relevant overview of natural supplements in evidence-based practice with an emphasis on disease states. This course is designed for physicians, naturopathic doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, nurse midwives, acupuncturists, chiropractors, dietitians, pharmacists, physician assistants, psychologists and any other health care professional who makes nutritional recommendations or manages dietary supplement use.
