How to Participate
This hereditary colorectal cancer study examines families with a history of colon and other related cancers. But more specifically, we examine families with hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer, also known as Lynch Syndrome.
What Do Participants Do?
This is a one-time study with two parts that can be completed through the mail. After consenting to the study, we will mail to you a kit for a blood sample that can be completed during your next doctor's visit or during your next blood draw. (Alternatively, we can draw your blood at MD Anderson.) This blood sample is used to look at minor DNA changes. To look at health and diet we have a questionnaire that we will send you. Both the blood sample kit and the questionnaire come with prepaid mailing materials for returning the items to us. We also cover any cost associated with the blood draw.
If you are interested in enrolling or have any questions, please call us toll-free at 888-862-9993 or email us at lalucio@mdanderson.org.
Unaffected Research Study Families
Unaffected research study families are families (parents plus one child over the age of 18) who have no known history of cancer in their first degree relatives and serve as controls for our study.
Study participation for unaffected research study families is similar to HNPCC participants. It is a one-time study with two parts that can be completed through the mail. After consenting to the study, we mail a kit for a blood sample that can be completed during your next doctor's visit or during your next blood draw. (Alternatively, we can draw your blood at MD Anderson.) This blood sample is used to look at minor DNA changes. To look at general health, we have a shortened questionnaire that we will send you.
