Research in Plastic Surgery

The Plastic Surgery Department's multidisciplinary research program concentrates on enhancing quality of life issues for cancer survivors by integrating knowledge from clinical science, life science, and engineering fields.

Our research provides a seamless bridge from innovative concepts and fundamental knowledge to discovery-centered opportunities. We achieve our mission via these strategic goals:

  • Identification of the fundamental mechanisms of tissue transfer, repair, replacement and regeneration to improve patient quality of life and reconstructive outcomes
  • Leverage of resources to exploit novel initiatives, conduct innovative research, develop and validate clinically translatable strategies and advance technology transfer
  • Education and training of the leadership and manpower required to investigate, promote and implement newly discovered tissue restoration therapies
  • Facilitation of scientific exchange among professional, educational, public and corporate entities
