Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) Grants
Research is key to eradicating cancer.
Because of MD Anderson's strength in moving innovative discoveries from the laboratory bench into doctors' hands, the National Cancer Institute has awarded the institution several Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) awards.
Current SPOREs are:
- Bladder Cancer SPORE
- Brain Cancer SPORE
- Head and Neck Cancer SPORE
- The Joe Moakley Leukemia SPORE
- Lung Cancer SPORE
- Lymphoma SPORE
- Melanoma SPORE
- Multiple Myelmoa SPORE
- Ovarian SPORE
- Pancreatic Cancer SPORE
- Prostate Cancer SPORE
- Uterine Cancer SPORE
These multimillion dollar projects aim to understand the basic underpinnings of various cancers, and to use that understanding to target aspects of the disease itself. Ultimately, the researchers aim to improve cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment.
