Activities and Opportunities

Seminar Series

Students are able to attend various seminars offered by the Center for Cancer Immunology Research (CCIR) and the Center for Inflammation and Cancer (CIC); both Centers are based at MD Anderson and specialize in translational immunology research.  The seminars are wonderful opportunities for students to learn about research led by accomplished scientists.  The CCIR also holds seminars in which students, postdoctoral fellows and PhD-level research staff give talks about their projects, and in return they receive feedback regarding presentation style, experimental design and interpretation of results from faculty.  Click the name of the seminar series listed below to view a web page with speakers and titles of their presentations.

The FY15 Seminar Series will begin in September 2014; all seminars will be held on Thursday at 10am in the S. Campus Research Building.  Please stay tuned - the full schedule will be posted in late August 2014.

Student Retreat

Every year the Immunology Program sponsors a student-organized Research Retreat, which includes a keynote speaker.  The retreat is usually held off campus and considered valuable time away from the laboratory allowing students and faculty to become better acquainted with each other. Our most recent Research Retreat was held in May 2014 at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas.  This year's retreat included several student oral presentations, two poster sessions, and a keynote lecture by invited guest speaker Dr. Stephen Jameson.  Additionally, presentations were judged by Faculty, resulting in the following awards:

Best Mini-Posters: Jolie Schafer & Kyle Jackson

Best Posters: Kalyan Nallaparaju & Todd Bartkowiak

Crowd Favorite:  Felix Nwajei

Best Oral Presentations: Stephanie Dorta-Estremera & Felix Nwajei
