Program Eligibility

For a 3-Month Short Term Research Experience, an applicant must be:

  • U. S. Citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited graduate program or medical school (includes graduate, medical & nursing students), OR
  • Undergraduates who are members of groups under-represented in the basic and behavioral sciences are also eligible
  • Applicants with visas are not eligible

For a 6-Month Short-Term Research Experience, an applicant must:

  • Be a U. S. citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited graduate program or medical school (includes graduate, medical & nursing students)
  • Intend to apply for a Cancer Prevention Research Training Program Predoctoral Fellowship
  • Be enrolled in a Doctoral program and within 18 months of their qualifying exam
  • Applicants with visas are not eligible

  • Important Dates

OR

  • Be a U. S. citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident
  • Intend to apply for a Cancer Prevention Research Training Program Postdoctoral Fellowship
  • Be within 12 months of completing their dissertation
  • Applicants with visas are not eligible

For an NCI-funded R25T Predoctoral Fellowship, an applicant must:

  • Be a U. S. citizen OR lawfully admitted permanent resident
  • Hold a Master's Degree or equivalent from appropriate health science disciplines
  • Be enrolled in a Doctoral degree program
  • Applicants holding visas are not eligible

For an NCI-funded R25T Postdoctoral Fellowship an applicant must: 

  • Have earned or be within 6 months of completing Doctorate in health science or related disciplines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident
  • Applicants holding visas are not eligible

For Donor-Funded Postdoctoral Fellowships (available without regard to the applicant's U. S. citizenship status), an applicant must:

  • Hold a valid and appropriate visa, if you are a Foreign National
  • Have COMPLETED a Doctoral degree program
  • Have a background in the basic biomedical sciences, medicine, biomedical statistics, epidemiology, behavioral and social sciences, nursing and related public health disciplined
