Grant Workshop

Female Cancer Screening Education for Nurse Professionals

The Professional Education for Prevention and Early Detection (PEPED) program has been awarded a grant by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The grant will cover the cost of the two-day training and education workshops throughout Texas about female cancer screening education for nurses in rural or medically underserved areas of Texas. The goal of this workshop is to prepare nurses to incorporate cancer prevention activities into clinical practice so that more Texans will have access to these services.

Day one of the workshop emphasizes prevention, risk assessment and early detection and includes screening and risk reduction options. Along with breast and gynecologic cancers we offer additional content on skin, colorectal and lung cancers. On day two, PEPED faculty will supervise select participants in a clinical component to further their expertise.

Each workshop will be held at a site convenient to the participants. By bringing the workshop into individual communities we expressly target nurses who provide health care to medically underserved citizens of Texas. We would like your community to benefit from this program.

Contact PEPED at peped@mdanderson.org for more information or to find out how to bring this program to your area.
