Elective/Clerkship Rotations

Eligibility Requirements/ Application Procedures for Resident

Application is made directly to the specialty program. Approval of recommendations, submitted by the clinical training program coordinator, is at the discretion of the vice president for Academic Affairs. Questions concerning the requirements for and status of applications should be directed to the clinical training program coordinator of the program(s) to which application is made. The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is able to accept residents for elective/clerkship rotations from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited GME programs or programs approved by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.

The institution requires the following documentation to process a recommendation for appointment:

  • Recommendation for Appointment form
  • Application form
    • Submit an original application form
    • Supply all information requested - If you submit the form electronically, you must provide a signed paper copy to complete the application process
  • Letter of Recommendation
    • The letter must be from the clinical training program director of the parent program and dated no more than one year prior to the application date
    • The letter must reflect the applicant's standing in the parent program and include proof of professional liability coverage provided by the parent institution for the elective rotation
  • Medical License or Permit: Copy of a currently valid authorization to practice medicine

Additional documentation may be required for program review, medical licensure/permit applications and/or visa applications.

Programs have specific requirements for applicants. At a minimum, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Eligible to secure and maintain either a Texas medical license, an institutional permit or a basic postgraduate resident permit from the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners
  • Eligible to secure and maintain an appropriate visa status, if applicable
  • Successful completion of prerequisite training for the program
