Pharmacy PGY2 Residency in Oncology
The Division of Pharmacy at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center offers a one-year post-Pharm.D. residency in clinical oncology. M. D. Anderson Cancer Center has 518 inpatient beds and over 3,500 outpatient clinic visits per day. The residency program is heavily weighted in patient care activities designed to develop expertise and clinical competence in both the pharmacotherapeutic and technologic aspects of cancer care.
Through required and elective rotations in a variety of focused hematology/ oncology services, the resident will refine his/her clinical problem-solving skills in cancer management. This clinical acumen coupled with didactic training in the basic science of oncology will prepare the resident to investigate therapeutic questions related to the care of cancer patients. Under the direction of Andrea Landgraf Oholendt, Pharm.D., BCOP, and the clinical pharmacy staff at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, the resident will:
- Provide comprehensive pharmacotherapeutic patient management as a member of a variety of medical teams including:
- Thoracic Oncology
- Genitourinary Oncology
- Gastrointestinal Oncology
- Stem Cell Transplant
- Adult Leukemia
- Medical Breast Oncology
- Lymphoma/Myeloma
- Gynecologic Oncology
- Infectious Disease
- Nutrition Support
- Pediatric Hem/Onc
- Palliative Care
The schedule of residency rotations includes required core rotations as well as elective time that may be tailored to the resident’s goals and previous experience.
- Provide pharmaceutical care to inpatient and ambulatory care oncology patients
- Participate in oncology-focused Drug Use Policy and Drug Information
- Participate in clinical research and Investigational Pharmacy Services
- Refine presentation and publication skills
- Provide education of patients, pharmacy staff, medical and nursing staff and pharmacy students

Interview
An on-site interview is required and will be scheduled in January or February.
Qualifications
Required: The applicant must possess a Pharm.D. degree and must have completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency. Licensure in the state of Texas is required. The residency is a 12-month program with a start date in late July.
