Project: Dynamic Chemical Shift Imaging for Image-Guided Thermal Therapy

My research is focused on developing a rapid chemical shift imaging (CSI) technique for temperature monitoring during MR-guided thermal therapies.  Specific aims in this research is to develop and test a spectral processing algorithm with high accuracy and sensitivity, to determine appropriate MR acquisition parameters, and to develop a mapping algorithm to display specific parameters including temperature in near real-time.  Using a non-Fourier based spectral processing algorithm and a rapid multi-gradient echo acquisition, our data has shown increased accuracy and sensitivity compared to traditional MR temperature imaging methods without sacrificing spatial and temporal resolution.   In addition, other parameters such as T2* and T1-weighted amplitudes of water and lipid, can be simultaneously monitored in addition to temperature changes.
