Principal Activities of the Department of Global Academic Programs

GAP Conference 2008 (jpg)Global Academic Programs uses Sister Institution Agreements and other Affiliation Agreements to create and manage or support collaborations for: basic, translational and clinical research projects; cancer prevention and population-based research projects; educational exchanges and training; clinical trials; and patient care. Other activities and outcomes are described below.

General examples of activities created, managed or supported to various degrees by Global Academic Programs are:

  • Annual education, research and clinical symposia
  • Continuing medical education by the Internet, ISDN and satellite broadcasting
  • Graduate and M.D./Ph.D. programs
  • Research and tissue banking collaborations
  • Clinical trial collaborations
  • Development of comprehensive cancer centers
  • Multidisciplinary patient consults (for Centro Oncológico MD Anderson International España) [COMDAIE], and occasionally Sister Institutions (SIs), and referrals (Global Academic Programs staff direct such requests from SIs and others to the MD Anderson International Center)
