Principal Activities of the Department of Global Academic Programs
Global Academic Programs uses Sister Institution Agreements and other Affiliation Agreements to create and manage or support collaborations for: basic, translational and clinical research projects; cancer prevention and population-based research projects; educational exchanges and training; clinical trials; and patient care. Other activities and outcomes are described below.
General examples of activities created, managed or supported to various degrees by Global Academic Programs are:
- Research and education exchanges of postdoctoral research fellows, scientists and clinicians and professional staff, such as administrators, pharmacists a
nd nurses - Annual education, research and clinical symposia
- Continuing medical education by the Internet, ISDN and satellite broadcasting
- Graduate and M.D./Ph.D. programs
- Research and tissue banking collaborations
- Clinical trial collaborations
- Development of comprehensive cancer centers
- Multidisciplinary patient consults (for Centro Oncológico MD Anderson International España) [COMDAIE], and occasionally Sister Institutions (SIs), and referrals (Global Academic Programs staff direct such requests from SIs and others to the MD Anderson International Center)
