GAP Conference 2008 - Nurse Attendees (jpg)As a result of its reputation, the national and international affiliation agreements, and faculty-to-faculty or department-to-department arrangements, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center has very large and active national and international exchange programs. Over 4,200 visiting faculty or other professionals, trainees in clinical, research and nursing and other allied health fields, and individuals in various special and student programs rotated through M. D. Anderson over the course of the year.

In addition, there were many one- or two-day visits by delegations and individuals for a variety of objectives. The majority of such individuals arrived at M. D. Anderson through faculty-to-faculty or department-to-department arrangements, or the activities of other organizational units with extramural interests such as the President’s Office, Global Business Development, Global Clinical Programs, the International Center, Physician Relations, Public Affairs, M. D. Anderson Services Corporation, Clinical and Translational Research and Nursing Education and Nursing Extramural Programs.

GAP Conference 2008 (jpg)In addition, our faculty and staff travel extensively. They were invited to travel to many dozens of national and international meetings and institutions as part of their personal professional activities, and because of the reputation of the institution. The international exchange activities of the Department of Global Academic Programs represent only a fraction of the total extramural involvement of the faculty, staff and departments of M. D. Anderson. However, they represent a potentially very important component for the international strategy of M. D. Anderson.
