Our Mission
Be the model for cancer centers in the effective recruitment, retention and advancement of a diverse faculty of women by creating an institutional culture where women physicians and scientists choose to be.


Data-Driven Decision Making & Accountability

  • Set targets for balanced gender participation and annually monitor progress
  • Conduct annual analysis of women faculty by tenure status and academic rank
  • Develop metrics and benchmarks to assess:
    • gender demographics and equity
    • tenure awards and renewals
    • promotions
    • women faculty in leadership positions
    • faculty searches for gender equity
    • faculty salaries
  • Adopt best practices from academia and other industries
  • Communicate the fact-based institutional view within the organization

Organizational Change

  • Ensure that policies do not inadvertently disadvantage women
  • Create a better work-life environment
  • Increase number of women leaders
  • Develop gender-sensitive competencies in the leadership
  • Raise awareness of diversity and gender equity issues through effective communication
  • Promote institution-wide gender-balanced participation

Professional Development and Mentoring

  • Develop targeted programs
  • Design and implement a talent management program for women faculty

Recognition of Women in Medicine and Science

  • Nominate women for internal and external prestigious prizes and awards
  • Host women scientists and physicians to give scientific and women-in-science talks

  • Legends and Legacies: Personal Journeys of Women Physicians and Scientists at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center
