Mouse Models of Human Cancer

Mouse Models of Human Cancer are genetically altered mice designed to mimic the mutations that occur in human cancers. The mouse provides a powerful mammalian experimental system to elucidate the mechanisms of cancer initiation, maintenance, progression and as a platform for preclinical drug development.

The IACS Mouse Modeling Team provides expertise in all areas of model generation from sophisticated design, molecular biology and cell culture to embryo manipulation. The Mouse Modeling Team adapts and optimizes state of the art technologies to accelerate the generation of multi-allele mouse cancer models. As part of MD Anderson, the Mouse Modeling Team collaborates with investigators from a broad range of departments and is well positioned to access the latest data identifying new therapeutic targets to quickly generate models of new targets in the correct mutational background.

James Horner, who has generated more than 2,000 different transgenic mouse strains over his career, leads the IACS Mouse Modeling Team.
