Education
The goal of the educational core of the Center for Research on Minority Health is to increase the number of individuals in health disparities research by creating unique educational programs and linking these to already existing programs. For instance, the Center for Research on Minority Health (CRMH) has established a consortium of academic and health institutions (the Health Disparities Education, Awareness, Research & Training [HDEART] Consortium). One of its goals is to create an academic degree/certificate granting program in health disparities.
The CRMH/HDEART sponsors several educational activities including the UNC Videoconference, the National Minority Cancer Awareness Week Luncheon, the Annual Summer Workshop on Health Disparities and the anchor health disparities course entitled "Disparities in Health in America: Working Toward Social Justice."
In addition, CRMH/HDEART is creating a pipeline program which will take students from kindergarden to postgraduate education. This program is part of the EXPORT grant recently awarded to the CRMH.
