Brain Tumor Center
The Brain Tumor Center is a multidisciplinary program that promotes collaborations among its members for laboratory research and treatment strategies for brain and spinal tumors. This program spans 14 departments and involves 70 research and clinical scientists who focus on discovering the molecular changes that drive brain and spinal tumors, and developing effective new treatments for these devastating tumors. The Brain Tumor Center supports interactions among this diverse group by sponsoring scientific retreats, meetings and collaborative projects.
Research for Better Treatment
Brain Tumor Center members participate in a Brain Cancer SPORE (Specialized Program of Research Excellence) funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and are major contributors to The Cancer Genome Atlas, funded by NCI and the National Human Genome Research Institute to accelerate understanding of the genetics of cancer. Brain Tumor Center funding is used to supply additional support to allow priority projects become more productive.
Our intention is that the new knowledge generated by these partnerships will lead to improved detection of cancer, treatment for tumors, and care for patients, as we train the next generation of clinicians and investigators.
Membership
Brain Tumor Center members include MD Anderson faculty from 14 departments who focus on some area related to brain tumor research or treatment. By coming together to exchange ideas from their various disciplines, they work to integrate advances to benefit our patients.
