| Fallopian Tube Cancer Basics |
|
This is an extremely rare gynecologic cancer that occurs in about three of every million women. This cancer begins in the fallopian tubes (a pair of ducts that transport eggs from ovary to uterus).
The most common symptoms are:
- Irregular or heavy vaginal bleeding (especially after menopause)
- Abdominal or pelvic pain
- Vaginal discharge
- A pelvic mass at the time of diagnosis (in up to two-thirds of patients)
Because of fallopian tube cancer's similarity to ovarian cancer, its evaluation, treatment and prognosis are similar to that for ovarian cancer. Treatment usually involves surgery followed by chemotherapy. |
