Operations and Facilities
MD Anderson’s Division of Operations and Facilities Management (OFM) provides facilities and operational support to fulfill MD Anderson’s mission to treat and prevent cancer. The professionals of MD Anderson’s OFM operate with a wide range of skills and experience. Project managers, architects, designers, engineers, administrators and skilled trade professionals work together to provide a highly specialized service. OFM is divided into a number of groups, each of whom serves a specific type of facility:
Administrative Facilities and Campus Operations
Responsible for institutional services, divisional logistical support and building management, which covers everything from light bulbs to shuttles to safety to landscaping.
Capital Planning and Management
Responsible for planning, programming, designing, building and/or renovating facilities projects with costs totaling $2 million or more.
Patient Care and Prevention Facilities
Responsible for planning, programming, designing, building, renovating, operating and maintaining buildings, where cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention programs are provided.
Research and Education Facilities
Responsible for planning, programming, designing, building, renovating, operating and maintaining safe laboratory and animal facilities in Houston, Smithville and Bastrop, Texas.
University of Texas Police Department (UTPD)
The University of Texas at Houston Police Department (UT Police) provides law enforcement and community services to MD Anderson and UT Health Science Center at Houston. UTPD maintains a proactive approach to provide a safe environment for all patients, visitors, students, employees and staff.
MD Anderson Creativity
OFM requires the services of a number of different types of architects and engineers, including the following groups:
Architectural and Engineering Services
Provide architectural and engineering design services that support the project management teams and create institutional design standards.
Facilities Planning Services
Provides integrated facilities planning and interior design services for the institution. This group coordinates project planning and interiors, manages resources for furniture and art, creates space planning, furniture and interiors standards, and conducts institutional space planning and facilities planning studies.
Project Management Services
Provide the project scope, schedule and budget development for MD Anderson projects. Project Managers are the project’s steward, facilitator, communicator and point of contact. They manage the installation of facility assets, the activation of space, project contract compliance and all reporting aspects to Capital Planning and Management’s customers, which include professionals in patient care, research and campus operations.
Wayfinding Services
The Wayfinding group consists of professionals with expertise in environmental graphic design, project management, architecture and graphic design. Wayfinding system that ensures patients, visitors and staff can get around the campus with ease.
