Nursing excellence is a central pillar in MD Anderson’s worldwide reputation for cancer care. Nursing at MD Anderson is filled with bright, motivated and caring employees. They are technically and intellectually prepared to provide the best cancer care available. Nearly 2,500 professional nurses work in our clinics and hospital as direct care providers, research nurses, advanced practice nurses, case managers and in numerous other roles. All nurses are encouraged and invited to attend and participate in the Nursing Practice Congress which was created to enable the professional nurse to define, implement, revise and maintain nursing practice standards with decision making at the point of care delivery.

MD Anderson received notification of Magnet Redesignation in February 2006 from the Magnet Recognition Program of the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The award recognizes nursing excellence throughout the institution, including MD Anderson's strength and commitment in providing superior services.

Professional Student Nurse Extern Program

MD Anderson's Professional Student Nurse Extern (PSNE) program allows nursing students the opportunity to work in a Magnet Recognized facility with an interdisciplinary health care team. PSNE program participants can advance their clinical and critical thinking skills at one of the nation’s foremost comprehensive cancer centers. Participants will obtain the basic knowledge and skills to practice oncology nursing while earning a competitive salary.  (See more information)

Launch into Nursing

The "Launch into Nursing" residency program is designed to be a component of the new-graduate nurse’s formal orientation at MD Anderson. The clinical, leadership and socialization aspects complement one another and provide the opportunity for a well-balanced orientation into the role of registered nurse. Job Interest Containers assist in the application process, conveniently matching your skills to a desired position.
